Audio: What the Hell are You Doing?
project: Starfinger
mp3: starfinger/starfinger-what_the_hell.mp3 (m3u)

Last night I took part in the second Song Skirmish with other SongFight! regulars.

The idea here is that we have exactly 1 hour to write and record a song based on a title that we don’t know beforehand. Furthermore, the title provider specifies an arbitrary restriction on the song, thus squeezing even more creativity out of us.

The title selected was What the hell are you doing?

and the arbitrary restriction was Must contain at least one acoustic instrument besides vocals and guitar (simply banging on something counts).

You can listen to all the songs here.

Audio: Soft Orange Glow (Heuristics Inc. Remix)
project: Dr. Kong
mp3: kong/remix/kongbalong-soft_orange_glow.mp3 (m3u)

I did a remix of the awesome Heuristics Inc song Soft Orange Glow for RemixFight.

Frankly, this isn’t my best remix. It is too short and uneventful, but hopefully someone will find some value in it.

And don’t forget to check out remixfight.com and heuristicsinc.com.

Another Failure

Hey, remember that collaboration that I was working on for the songfight this week? Well it didn’t come together after all. We are going to try to finish it anyway, and post it at somesongs.

It was still a pretty good jolt to the creativity lobes. I promise something new and musical will happen this week!

Prince

Prince is awesome. I have 16 of his albums on CD, having just picked up Crystal Ball on ebay last week.

The big news, however, is that I just bought 2 tickets to see him at the Contintental Airlines Arena, in July. I can’t wait!

Kick Me

Well, I didn’t do a SongFight! this week after all. I guess I’m obliged to beat myself up now.

I am working on a collaboration with someone this week, though, so hold on to your butts.

In the meantime, here’s a sad link that has nothing to do with music.

Free albums

There’s no shortage of free music on the internet. I mean, that’s what this site is all about. Check out any of the musicians on my new links page, and you’ll find tons of stuff to listen to.

Here are two albums that I found recently that you may enjoy (I sure have):

Liars: They Were Wrong So We Drowned

and

Matt Schickele: April & November

Have fun!

Bortwein!

Who’s the man?

Bortwein, of course!

He generously provided the images that so beautifully sweeten up the left side of this page, and provided some invaluable tips on making this site a little more interesting.

He’s also the one that came up with the design for the Starfinger shirt a few months ago.

Three cheers for Bortwein!

Titles

Wow, the SongFight! titles this week are awesome.

I’m going to beat myself up if I don’t record anything.

Here they are:

Red: Across the Dusty Plains
Blue: Here Comes My Dragon
Green: Silent Pipe

Does anybody have any ideas that I can steal from them?
Wish me luck!

Web Site

By the way, I’ve been mucking around with the style sheets for this site. Please let me know if anything looks funky. Thanks.

What’s going on.

Here’s what I’m up to:

1) Covering the Oak Ridge Boy’s Elvira.

2) Remixing Heuristics Inc.’s Soft Orange Glow for RemixFight.

I have other remixes to do, and I hope to do some other SongFight!-related activities, but we’ll see what happens.

I will keep you posted!

In the meantime, track down recent songfight entries by Dollar Bill and the Inkpoints. I love them to death.
