Stand up!

There is a significant amount of frightening legislation making its way through Congress nowadays.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has a great site that will allow you to easily make your opinion known to your representatives. I just sent in my opposition to the Induce Act, the PIRATE act, and the PATRIOT act.

You can make a difference!

“Ho!”, an A-A-D

Well, I did it!

In lieu of having an album-of-the-week this week, I created an Album-A-Day, today.

It’s called Ho!.

Check it out HERE, and leave some feedback here in the blog.

Super Music Weekend

Unfortunately none of this killer music news has anything to do with me:

  • A whole bunch of Songfighters independently decided to record an Album-a-Day this weekend. The details of the AAD project can be read here.

I’m only going to plug the ones I’ve actually heard so far (and let me tell you they’re great): Heuristics Inc’s A Very Serious Crime and Blind Mime’s Six on Sunday.

  • Consummate Songfight rockers sonofsupercar announced a new album available in mp3 format at their website.
  • Songfight’s annual Live event took place in Austin, TX. It sounds like everybody had a great time. MP3s supposedly forthcoming.

What did I do this weekend? I spent two days installing a casement window air conditioner that doesn’t work!!!

Melvins - Stoner Witch

Album-of-the-week: 6/17/04

My favorite Melvins album.

If you like heavy music, and don’t have this — Shame on you.

Farting Around in Technicolor

I’ve been making a point lately of spending a little time each day playing around with the arsenal of audio tools on my Powerbook. I’ve been creatively dry lately, so this allows me to get my musical fix without the need for inspiration.

To celebrate the forthcoming release of Ableton Live 4, I thought I’d spend some quality time with Live 3.

I took a few uninteresting CSound textures, that I had created for Tapegerm a couple years ago, and unleashed Live’s clip envelopes on them. I then set up a send bus with SupaTrigga, which did all the hard work.

I don’t have the source files handy, but here is the result:

Watch this space for more musical experiments in the future.

David Bowie - Heathen

Album-of-the-week: 6-11-04

For all the suckers out there that think Bowie isn’t doing anything interesting nowadays, this is one of my favorites of his. The latest album is pretty great as well, but this one warms the cockles of my heart.

Joy Division - Substance

Album-of-the-week: 6/4/2004

Joy Division should need no introduction, but I have a feeling there are still music-loving people in the world that are missing out on their genius. You really can’t go wrong with any of their albums, but this is probably the place to start. It’s a collection of singles, many of which aren’t available on the albums.

Get ready to live!

Live 4

Live 4 is announced! Live 4 is announced!

This is HUGE.

I’m having a heart attack over here.
