Free Flat Screen

I decided to give FreeFlatScreens.com a shot.

I know it seems a little shady — a little too pyramid-scheme-like. But Wired did an article on the company running these promotions, and it suddenly seemed worth trying.

Here’s how it works: They have a list of sponsors with various trial offers. I had to sign up for one of these, and now I have to get 8 people to do the same thing. Then I get a free flat screen monitor or TV of my choice from their list of offerings.

Maybe I’ve just sold my soul to the horrible corporate machine that is ruining our internet, but hey — I think I prefer this to normal advertising. Especially if I actually get a new monitor out of the deal.

Anyway, check it out, and consider signing up. It seems like a low-risk proposition.

A lot of the trial offers are pretty crappy. I wanted to do one that didn’t require a credit card, but the only ones with that option were for AOL, and I didn’t want to condone that! Maybe it’s a good way to go if they let you cancel without ever installing the software.

I decided to go with the Rhapsody trial. I know Real is only slightly less evil than AOL, but this actually seems really cool. I could see myself actually paying for this if I used Windows more often.

A friend of mine is starting a FreeFlatScreens Conga Line to help people find new referrals, if you decide to give this a shot. (Please do, I want my monitor!)

Anyway, that’s my spiel.

Forgive me, but I’m posting this on kongbalong too.

Unfortunately, I already have a nice 23″ LCD TV/monitor. Sorry. ;)

Yes, it really does work. A friend of mine got his 17″ Samsung, 12ms low-response time panel a couple days ago.
