Well, if you happen to read weblar, you will know that I’m planning a return to graduate school in the fall of 2006. It is a ways off, but I’m planning on becoming a full-time student, and we don’t know what our living conditions will be like — especially early on.

Hence, I am totally streamlining my studio. The first, most impulsive, aspect of this transformation is the new computer that I ordered last night, the Alienware mj-12m 7700 mobile desktop. This powerful little beast should carry me well into this grand new endeavor.

With the money from selling my equipment, I will probably buy one of the new Mackie Onyx mixers.

The end result of this will be a highly software-centric new studio, consisting entirely of gear that I will actually use. It’s sad to see a lot of that stuff go, but I’m excited about all these changes.

I’m doing some massive studio reorganization, and I have a lot of stuff to sell.
All of this is in very good condition, so if you see something you like, send me an offer.

Native Instruments announced today that the new version of their flagship sampler, Kontakt 2, will come with a 15 GB sample library.

Fifteen GIGABYTES??!!

I’m planning to return to graduate school for a PhD in Computer Science.

It’s a ways off — I’m past all the application deadlines for this year, and I have yet to see a program that accepts new doctoral students in the Spring, so it will be starting in Fall 2006.

Nevertheless, I am excited. This has been percolating in the back of my mind ever since I left Tulane, and I recently realized that if I don’t do it, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life.

I don’t know where I’m going to apply yet, and more importantly I don’t know precisely what I want to study, but I am exploring options, and I’m quite sure I want to do something with a strong theoerical/mathematical aspect.

I have faith that I have God’s blessing in this endeavor, and he will lead me to the right course of study.

I will keep you posted.

A Sliver is a Sliver

One, two, three -
the dimension for me.
Is it
All we need?
Inside,
time is despised.

It’s a hyperstale
moment.
With no room for surprise.
No death, no growth.
Horizontal and vertical are practical.
Depth is only natural,
But a sliver is just a sliver.

Now is no time for the present,
(unless you’re omnipresent)
but still…

Yeah, still -
like a flower on a window sill.
With no fear of deflowerment,
But no hope for water.

A pig led to slaughter.
Forever in line;
Next on the chopping block.

A rock,
loosed by a missplaced foot.
A smile caught in shock.
The slip — the lost grip –
Registered by the body
But still waiting in line,
To be processed by the mind.

Is it good to go,
or tragic to stop (on a dime or more gradual)?
Perspective makes it possible
To consider the case.
But neurons can’t fire
outside time and space.
And clocks don’t tick or tock
inside this box.

Is it better to ‘be’,
or ‘was’ or ‘will’?
To ‘try’ or ‘wait’
