I’m forcibly committing myself to performing at Songfight Live! in Boston, August 12-14.
Right now it’s shaping up to be a very short, laptop heavy performance, but I’ve recruited the Sober Irishman to help me out, and he’s encouraging a more organic approach.
Anyway, I’m hoping to do these 4 songs:
Please Don’t Call Me Ken
Blimps
Twin Kiss
More Than Soup
Any ideas how I can break out of the karaoke-mold for these songs? I have a few live-looping ideas, but I have not yet confirmed they will work.
Regardless, I’m excited and nervous, and I have a lot of preparation to do!
ok, here’s what i think would be absolutely awesome and hands down win the best performance award. you need a conducter, a “soup choir” and you dressed up in a mad iron chef like outfit (or at least have a toque or fez or some sort of hat). you play a karaoke mix of the tune behind you, maybe have a few live instruments like kazoos, claves, bongos, triangle, etc. and have the conducter waving their arms (get frankie to be the conducter). you do the rap over the karaoke mix coming through the PA, and on cue at the chorus, the whole “soup choir” kicks in. you gotta get at least 10-15 people for the “soup choir”.
man, i wish i was going. i’d love to be the conducter, or at least in the choir. and i’d be happy to donate a karaoke version of my remix to the cause if you like.
